We got up early on Sunday morning and headed north on the subway to 110th street and the top of Central Park. We then explored the top half of the park and walked south checking out the Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis Reservoir, the Solomon R. Guggenheim Museum and the Metropolitan Museum of Art (the Met).
We went to the Olive Garden for lunch at Times Square before walking over to 5th Avenue for some final shopping.
We stopped by our hotel for a short break after having walked close to 8kms that day. Then on Sunday afternoon at 3pm, we attended a WNBA game between the NY Liberty and Phoenix Mercury at Madison Square Garden (MSG). Here is a photo below of the ad at MSG advertising the game for the two days prior.
Lindy and Stuart attended an NBA playoff game at MSG in the late 1990s and it was great to take the children to an event there too.
The atmosphere was great with lots of noise and music.
To the basketball, Phoenix got out to an early lead leading by double digits before the NY Liberty fought back and trailed by only 1 point at the half time break.
The Liberty had a great 3rd quarter to lead by 10 points at the last break. With minutes to go, they were in control and should have won. Phoenix were down 3 pts with under 10 seconds left however a silly foul sent one of Phoenix’s best players to the free throw line for 3 FTs – she hit all 3 and Liberty were unable to score at the other end sending the game into overtime.
Phoenix controlled the overtime and eventually won 104-97.
It was a really enjoyable game and the atmosphere was great.
Wow looks amazing. I’ll bet the atmosphere was something else. Hope you enjoy the rest of your time away. Safe journey home. Taking Luke to Pete’s Thursday afternoon. We will be home Saturday morning. See you soon xxxooo
